BUTLER Makes History! NCAA

The Butler Bulldogs made history Monday night, but not the way they had hoped. They made history by shooting an anemic 18.8 % from the field. Let me say that again 18.8 % from the field. In a nutshell I could find five small children from my neighborhood to shoot better than that. Take no credit away from coach Calhoun and the UCONN Huskies, they played tough and got the win, but the pride of Indiana only have themselves to blame. Coach Stevens and his boys never made the adjustments in the second half, and apparently never read the scouting report that the Huskies had a legit seven footer and two other 6'9" post players. Mr. Motor PF Matt Howard made fools of the experts that said he was an NBA talent. He relentlessly tried to back down the larger defender and refused to face up and use his quickness to beat them off the dribble. To add insult to injury almost every UCONN defender was hampered with 2 fouls going into halftime, but due to the size of Uconn Butler refused to attack the rim and put anyone in significant foul trouble. Coach Stevens seemed content to watch his team become one dimensional hosting up three pointer after three pointer (9/33) while the Huskies lead grew. The Bulldogs best offensive threat Shelvin Mack was a shell of the player we have watched the past two seasons, he didn't take control in the second half and didn't seem to shoot or drive any baskets from inside the three point arch. The significance of this loss for Butler, thier second in a title game in as many years will be felt forever. Cinderella had two chances to go to the ball and came up short twice. Against Duke in 2010 was acceptable, but not this years team with the experience and grit and junk yard dog mentality. Cool Hand Luke( Stevens) never changed anything offensively and at times it was brutal to watch. Not for Butler fans, but for college basketball fans worldwide. Butler had a great chance to give a glimmer of hope to all mid majors, "hey Butler won it all why cant we? " Kudos to coach Calhoun, one of the all time greats and congrats on a great season for Butler, but that's all it will ever be. A great season. We all know it could have been so much more, It could have been History.
